An Old Fool

“O man! of all fools, a fool with a grey head is the worst fool anywhere. With one foot in the grave, and another foot on a sandy foundation, how will I depict you, but by saying to you as God said to the rich man, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’”

—Charles H. Spurgeon (1834-1892)

  1. When I was a little my mom used to say, “There’s no fool like an old fool”. Now I’m wondering if this saying originated from brother Spurgeon’s quote.
    Pathetic isn’t it?

    • I haven’t heard that expression for a long time. But now that you bring it up… it makes me wonder if it didn’t after all.

I’ve got a lot of elderly in this congregation… some who have walked in the doctrines of grace for years longer than I’ve been alive. When I consider Spurgeon’s quote in contrast with the sweet love and wisdom among my seniors, I pray that if I should carry on for a few years longer by God’s grace, that by that same grace, and by His mercy, He’ll allow me to walk in the kind of hoary-headed wisdom of this beloved saints.

Blessings to you and Robert, dear sister. You two, your pastor, and your congregation are in my daily prayers.

  2. Amen! I too pray I will be one who exhibits a lifetime of walking in grace, should He give me that many years. Thank you so much for your prayers for our pastor and church. At our meeting last week John mentioned your prayers for the work here as an example of encouragement to the folks here.

As always praying for your ministry, family, and your health dear brother.
